The King Is Still The King

Last year, after a long run, Elvis Presley fell from the #1 spot in the "Top-Earning Dead Celebrities" list. When Kurt Cobain's widow Courteney Love sold her dead husband's catalog, Cobain was vaulted to the #1 spot.

Cobain's reign has proved to be fleeting; according to Forbes Magazine, Elvis is once again the king of dead celebrities, earning $49 Million last year, beating out his main competitors, John Lennon and Peanuts creator Charles Schultz by wide margins. Cobain didn't even chart this year. Eat the King's dust, Cobain!

Maybe it's just me, but I think when you die you should slow down just a bit.

Slow down a bit? Hell, Tupac still puts out an album of new material every year doesn't he?

Congrats to Elvis.

I can't believe Elvis is ahead of Lennon. That makes me a little sad.

TCB FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE BABY!

Yeah...

You have posted one of my favorite Elvis pictures, circa 1957. The guy who created that suit was Nudie Cohen, owner of Nudie's Rodeo Tailors. I think I'll write about him later. And, that's the outfit I'll be running in at the Las Vegas Marathon next month. I'll let you know if gold lame breathes well.

Skyler's Dad-
You'd think he'd take it easy, wouldn't you?

On the other hand, his net profit's got to be higher these days-- he's saving money on recording, food and drug costs.

Mob-
Yeah, now that Lynnrd Skynnrd and Jimi Hendrix have been slowing down, someone's had to pick up the slack.

Natalie-
I think that's because they split the Beatles up into individuals. George Harrison was also high on the list. And Lennon was a huge Elvis fan-- he'd approve, I'm sure.

Bubs-
I was just thinking about Nudie's Rodeo Outfitters-- they mentioned him in Porter Waggoner's obit.

Kim was asking me what I wanted for Christmas, and I couldn't think of anything, and it occurred to me that the last materiel thing I want for myself is a gold lame Elvis suit. If I get one, we'll have to go out for a drink dressed in our Elvis suits.

And be sure to get pics in Vegas!

The King should always be The King of dead celebrities. I can't see people running around Vegas dressed as Lennon or Schwartz.

um. Elvis is not a dead celebrity and thus should not get the title.

I remember being 6 in 1982 watching Jailhouse Rock begging my mother to go see him, does he do concerts, I asked. I cried when my mother told me he was dead.

The king will always live on!
