"Children by the million sing for Alex Chilton when he comes 'round
They sing "I'm in love. What's that song?
I'm in love with that song."
Alex Chilton
The Replacements
Last night we had a 15th birthday party for my son Adam (the blogger formerly known as the Evil Dictator, but since seeing The Big Lebowski is now known as The Dude. Attendance by both kids and adults was great. And of course we broke out Rock Band II.
As The Dude hammered away at the drums, with his good friend Julian playing guitar, and his stepsister Mel and her friend Alexandra on vocals to The Replacements' "Alex Chilton," I turned to someone and said that 23 years ago, when we were all in clubs hearing the song, and even seeing the Replacements perform, I would have never imagined I'd be hanging out with my teenaged son and his friends as they performed it on a video game. Or that I'd be having the time of my life doing it.
The Dude abides.

Ahhh...Happy Birthday Dude!
Hope everyone had a splendid time!
One year until he is of driving age. I am shaking in my boots. We laugh because Sweetness may just inherit the car we drove her home from the hospital in.
I know, I often think about how it's odd that today's kids often like the same music as their parents, or at least don't ridicule it as our generation did to our parents. At least in some ways, until we were old enough to learn that Blossom Dearie and Nat King Cole rocked the boat.
It's all pretty amazing. Looks (and sounds) like great fun.
happy birthday to your dude.
I have Rockband 2 and haven't played it yet. Crazy, I know. I think my daughter and I are going to rectify that this weekend.
Happy Birthday, Dude.
I know you're crazy busy, but You've been tagged
Happy Birthday to the Dude.
I love that song. I am pretty sure it was on my 40th birthday CD.
HAppy Birthday to "the Dude"
my 22 year old daughter LOVES the BIG LEBOWSKI......she quotes from that movie all the time....I think her favorite is something like ....I don't roll on Shabbis man....something like that anyway......
OH and congratulations for raising a kid that still likes to have birthday parties at home and with a reaonable number of friends attending...I find where we live so many kids expect lavish expensive parties it is sickening...
Only six more years and he can order a white russian!
Four years from now he'll be the age I was when we were neighbors in Taylor Hall. Yikes!
