Perhaps the most memorable one was Ozzy Osbourne. Yes, that Ozzy Osbourne, on August 17, 2003. Never mind that he's from England, a country where baseball is not played. Never mind that he didn't know the words. The Evil Dictator (the blogger also known as my son) has posted a Youtube clip of that infamous moment, which was obviously an important life event for him, to share with you all.

Egad! I count myself as an Ozzy fan and I'm agast. Couldn't Sharon have provided a crib sheet?

I know everyone loved Harry, but I was always a Steve Stone fan.
Remember when Harry Caray had his heart attack or whatevah and Bill Murray filled in some?
Ah, the days.
Doc-
I hadn't realized until I saw the vid on my son's blog that she was there-- at least she had the good sense to keep her mouth shut!
Vikki-
I'm with you there on Steve Stone. My father and I occasionally talk about how great he was. He had such a great understanding of the game and was scary intelligent. It was like someone had hired Dick Cavett to do baseball commentary.
I was never a Harry Carey fan, actually. I still miss Jack Brickhouse. I ran into Jack Brickhouse in a hotel elevator in 1985 (after having seen the Replacements!) I was too starstruck to talk to him.
Jess-
I remember that!
It's hard to explain to a non-fan the kind of fanship the Northsiders inspire.
