The Hard Part Was Dancing Around the Car Like Mick Jagger...

From the Singalong Random 10

1. True- Spandau Ballet
2. Monkey Man- The Rolling Stones
3. What's New Pussycat- Tom Jones
4. Tuesday's Gone- Lynard Skynard
5. Mother's Son- Curtis Mayfield
6. Keats' Song- Pete Shelley
7. If the Kids Are United- Sham 69
8. We Ought To Be Ashamed- Johnny Cash and Elvis Costello
9. Do Right Woman- Do Right Man- Aretha Franklin
10. She'd Rather Be With Me- The Turtles

Tom Jones has been showing up a lot in my Random 10's lately. I think Bubs somehow arranged this. I'll have to be sure to thank him.

And regarding #1-- what's with all the songs from The Wedding Singer lately?

You're welcome.

This is one of the best lists I've seen in a long time. I'd forgotten about Sham 69--that song used to be one of my favorites.

Thanks!

Should I be embarrassed about my total love of Spandau Ballet?

I'll bet the other drivers were giving you a wide berth. I know they stay clear of me when I am throwing back my head, howling along with a song.

Awww, Pete Shelley - bless his funny little heart.

Very kewel -- all of it. Randomness and synchronicity are interesting mates. "Monkey Man" is used well on Entourage, if you've seen it.

Now that's a shuffle!

I like #1; it reminds me of the Wedding Singer but it also reminds me of Drew. What a cutie.

Highlights for me:

#2. Monkey and #10. Flo and Eddy.(they had such a mellow pop sound)

Nice list.

If I said my favorite Turtles songs were Elenore and Happy Together instead of #10, would I be micro-managing? Ha.

I love that 'True' song and believe that I can sing it exactly as it sounds on record. I am deluded, true.

I have no idea why but whenever I hear True I am instantly back in New York. I have never consciously listened to S.B. so the only thing I can think is I must have heard it while there.

Oh, Johnny Cash and Elvis Costello together? Why have I not heard that one before? I have got to check that one out!

Bubs-
Coming from a guy whose lists always amaze me, that's high compliment.

That "No Thanks!" collection is great-- it needs to be in your collection, or the next time we have a blogger getogether, I can bring it with so you can put it on your itunes.

Lulu-
Never!

Barbara-
I think they were already doing that because I had a bottle of Jim Beam in one hand and a handgun in the other.

Erik-
My wife's a big fan of Entourage.

Saw "The Departed" on Friday night-- great movie and great soundtrack, as you pointed out. "Let It Loose", one of the lesser-known songs from Exile on Main Street (the album I'd argue was the greatest rock album ever), and they played Patsy Cline's "Sweet Dreams" no fewer than three times!

Frank-
Thank you!

Busterp-
Yes, Drew's cute, but I still think of her as the little kid in ET and Firestarter.

I LOVE Happy Together! I remember hearing it on the radio when I was a kid.

One day, my stepdaughter was playing someone's cover of it, so I played the original on my itunes. She and I now have a tradition of singing it together on karaoke.

Dale-
I believe you can sing it exactly as it was on record. Delusions be damned.

Have you checked out www.singshot.com, the online karoake? It's way cool. I just checked, though-- they don't have "True" up yet.

You can hear Mrs. Yen, my stepdaughter and I (we can't persuade my son to do it-- yet). We're under The Yen Family Singers.

Toccata-
It brings me back to college and rooming with three great guys and having the time of my life in Charleston, Illinois. Definitely great memories.
