John Doe originally performed this one with his band X. He co-wrote it with Dave Alvin of the Blasters (who joined X for a while in the eighties).
Fourth of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) was from Springsteen's second album, "The Wild, The Innocent and the E-Street Shuffle." It's got one of my favorite-ever lines in a song:
