Coming back from the grocery store this morning, I made an observation about my north side Chicago block: most of the SUV's have disappeared.
If you had taken this same picture a few years ago, when gasoline was below $2 a gallon, nearly half the cars on the block were SUV's and trucks, including my Blazer. With gasoline above $4 a gallon most of the summer, I, and many of my neighbors got rid of the gas-guzzlers and got Toyotas, Hondas and other gas-sippers. The Prius in the foreground is one of at least three on the block. Tres Cool!

Seeing the same thing here - car lots FULL of used SUVs they can't unload. That's a good thing. I've always drive my old van that gets 22mpg. Not bad for a van.
I have seen many pick-ups and big vehicles for sale in drive ways but there still are many gas guzzlers driving around here. Which is why, I think, we ran out of gas a couple weeks ago.
the fewer the better ------
Might they be at the bottom of the lake, sleeping with the fishes?
I still see an occasional joker in a Hummer lumbering around Detroit, and still I pity the poor fool.
not in my small town....it's sad,,,,all the gas guzzlers are alive and well here.....I have seen a few motor scooters....I really want one to do daily errands with but G man is not yet convinced the purchase cost will out way the benefits....he kinda has a return on investment attitude.....I have been aware that my kids are not traveling to see friends at colleges as much....the gas prices have put a crimp in their wallets.....they seem to be carpooling too....
mmmmm....I mean't benefits will aout way the purchase cost
Do you want to know something about your bro-in-law, who you don't know much bout anyway B-Dog?
S'like this.....Jim Carey almost made me famous when he did Ace Ventura, ya know the part where he spreads his whole hand/fingers into the letter "L", holds it up to his forehead and throws out a long loud Lllaaaahhoooosssseerrrrr!
That's me sometimes, Yep, The last guy on the block to get rid of his 8 track and get a casette deck, and of course the very last to get a VCR player, and what you say, get a cam corder? Well, when they finally came out with cams small enough to fit in your shirt pocket I got my first one, the ones you prop on your shoulder to support their weight! So don't even metion a computer Dude. And Now, SUV'S!!
I finally mustered up the balls to get the big guy a big ride last year so I haul around in this massive '07 Jeep 4x4 Commander that gets like 13.7 mpg. Well at least I have a vehicle I fit in, and guess what, the Boss buys most of my FU-EL!!
Good Blogging Yenneroo!
Gordy'Cuse
I keep thinking the same will happen here in Boulder but since people actually USE their SUVs here, the switch hasn't taken place. Most people I know keep their SUV and buy something else more economical if they need to commute... unlike yours truly that drives maybe five miles a day average. So I'm keeping my big honkin' Touareg!
