Home Improvements

Got home today to a much-improved home renovation situation. The kitchen is painted, and most of the dust is cleaned up. Notice the built-in lights under the cabinets.

We'll have a hood that actually vents to the outside, and a modern stove with no pilot lights to heat up the kitchen all summer, or blow out when a breeze blows through the screen door.

With the refrigerator now where the oven used to be (the oven is where the dishwasher used to be, and the dishwasher is where there were cabinets-- it's been like a big pea and shell game), we're trying to figure out what we want in the space. It may be a bar-like counter that we can have a meal, sit with a laptop or watch tv in the kitchen, or a small table. We'll run out to IKEA and see what we can find.

The best news was in the bathroom.

They grouted the floor, hung the new non-rusty medicine cabinet...

...but best of all...

...they connected the water for the bathroom sink...

...and the bathtub. It was great bathing in my own home for the first time in a week and a half. Good god, is it good to have running water in my home.

I won't have to spray the kids with the garden hose in the backyard to bathe them this weekend, like we planned...

Congrats! I remember how happy I was when I finally got water at my place. A working toilet at your home base is a must.

Darling, the fact that you cared to photograph the running water shows how completely twisted you truly are.

Built-in under-cabinet lights is a nice touch. I'm renting these days, so interior changes are limited. Looks good.

Macguffin-
Thanks! It's nice to not feel like we're camping in our own home!

Beth-
Yeah, but I would have had to call you to throw my bail for child abuse after that.

Chris-
We only had to do without a toilet one night-- part of the contract my landlord had with the contractor. Lack of a sink and bath sucked-- you have to plan your day around getting cleaned up.

Kim-
He he... and you married me of your own free will...

Cheer34-
Thanks, I know-- someday we'll even have a working stove!

Natalie-
Yeah, my family and friends are pretty happy that I'm bathing again, too!

Erik-
They are. I actually installed a florescent light up there myself in the old kitchen. We rent as well, so we had little say, but overall, we've been pleased with the choices our landlord made.

Looks great! Congratulations. Ah, a gas stove. That would be sweet! I have electric. It sucks!
