On the way in to work today, I had Little Steven's Underground Garage playing on the Sirius satellite radio that my lovely bride got me for my birthday last year, and heard Dutch rockers Golden Earring's first hit, from 1966, "Daddy, Buy Me a Girl."
BFF Jim will quip, occasionally, "Isn't it time for Golden Earring to have a hit again?" Indeed, they seem to have a hit every decade or two; after the 1966 success, they scored a huge international smash hit in 1973 with "Radar Love," which is perhaps the greatest driving song ever. In 1982-83, they scored again, thanks to heavy MTV rotation of the video with "Twilight Zone."Looking them up on Wikipedia, I discovered that they've been around exactly as long as I have-- they were formed in The Hague by then-teenaged George Kooymans and Rinus Gerritsen in 1961. They've had the same line-up since 1970, making them some true rock and roll survivors. Here's hoping for at least one more hit for them!
In checking out my favorite bloggers this morning, I discovered that cultural and artistic blogger par excellence Erik had Golden Earring on the brain as well-- he posted a video of Golden Earring performing Radar Love. It seems, then, that I should post a Golden Earring video as well-- fittingly, Twilight Zone...

Okay, not really, but wouldn't that be freaky if it was true?! I did a post about Shatner recently and he was in an episode of Twilight Zone - the one with the gremlin on the wing of the plane. Maybe that counts!
That was a great episode! The Shat was actually in a few episodes of The Twilight Zone.
Do you remember that they had that one in the remake, with John Lithgow in the Shatner role? It was the only really good part of the movie. Especially tragic, because Vic Morrow and those two children were killed filming it.
